Top One Nehru Institute of Mountaineering is At Uttarkashi, Uttarakhand


It is Asia's most recognized mountaineering institute, having been established in 1965. It offers a variety of courses, including an adventure course. With also a basic mountaineering course. an advanced mountaineering course, a search and rescue course (only one in India). A method of instruction course, among many others.

In 2014, they started a skiing course dependent on snow conditions. Tekhla's Best and Amazing Rock Climbing Training Area is recognized as one of India's Best Rock Climbing Spots. For the following year's course, one must apply a year in advance because the slots fill up .

The Nehru Institute of Mountaineering (NIM) is recognized. One of India's oldest mountaineering schools. as well as Asia's most famous mountaineering school. In 1964, the Defense ministry, Government of India, and the Government of Uttar Pradesh.

In Uttarkashi, he proposed constructing a climbing institute. NIM chose Uttarkashi as its home due to its proximity to the Gangotri region in western Garhwal. which has India's, if not the world's, best climbing and training potential The Institute is perched on a turtleback hill over the east bank of the Bhagirathi River. The holy town of Uttarkashi and the confluence of the Indravati and Bhagirathi rivers are seen from here. With the creation of the state Government of "Uttaranchal" (now Uttarakhand) in November 2001.

Top 2nd Himalayan Mountaineering Institute Is at  Darjeeling, West Bengal.


This institute was established in 1954 and is located in a fantastic location with a morning view of Mt. Kanchenjunga (8,512m), where the first sunrays land on its peak, giving it a golden hue. Another advantage of the training.  It takes students to west Sikkim via Kanchenjunga National Park. It's known for its difficult hikes and high rucksack loads.

It offers adventure courses, as well as Basic Mountaineering. Advanced Mountaineering, Methods of Instruction, and Special. Courses include such sports climbing and rock climbing.

The Himalayan Mountaineering Institute (HMI). One of the largest and most prestigious mountaineering institutions. This institute is situated in the picturesque hill station of Darjeeling. It was formed by everyone except Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru on November 4th, 1954.

Sherpa Tenzing Norgay, the first human to step foot on the highest peak of Mount Everest. along with Sir Edmund Hillary, was born in Darjeeling. Tenzing spent the majority of his post-Everest ascent career as Director of Field Training at HMI. HMI is now a well-known landmark in Darjeeling and a popular tourist destination. Mount Kanchenjunga, the world's third tallest peak, is visible in the distance.

Top 3rd is Jawahar Institute of Mountaineering & Winter Sports is at Pahalgam, Jammu and Kashmir


This institute was founded in Aru, Jammu & Kashmir, in 1983. The organization's head office is in Pahalgam. And having sub-centers at Nalthi Bhaderwah, Sanasar-Patnitop-Kud, Shey (Leh), and Gulmarg. Basic and Advanced Mountaineering Courses, Methods of Instruction, Basic Skiing Courses, Intermediate Skiing Courses, Advanced Skiing Courses. Basic Paragliding, and more are all available.

The Foundation was established in 1983 in Aru, near Pahalgam. J&K, with the purpose of providing a variety of adventurous activities in one location. They were close to each other.

Aru was recognized as the most picturesque town. Sought-after tourist attraction since it met the majority of the quality requirements. It claims to be a trekker's paradise, with opportunities for rock climbing, ice climbing, stream crossing, and a nearby glacier. ski slopes in the winter. The Institute is run by an Executive Council made up of representatives from both the state and the federal government. The Institute's affairs are currently being managed by the Jt. Top 4th Atal Bihari Vajpayee Institute of Mountaineering and Allied Sports is at Manali, Himachal Pradesh.


This Institute is known as ( ABVIMAS ) Atal Bihari Vajpayee Institute of Mountaineering and Allied Sports at Manali is now the country's largest Adventure Sports training facility. The Directorate is situated on a 20-acre plot of property among the woods. Along the banks of the Beas River, boasts a hostel that can house 260 people at a time. With a big dining hall that can serve more than 200 people at a time. and a 680-seat auditorium.

There is also a Great and modern library, museum, and lecture halls. All of this is visible on this beautiful campus. In addition, the Directorate runs a number of adventure training sites around Himachal Pradesh.

Top 5th National Institute of Mountaineering and Allied Sports is at Dirang, Arunachal Pradesh


It is the first national institute authorized to conduct land, aero, underwater courses? having been established in 2013. The teachers were educated at the High Altitude Warfare School in Siachen (HAWS). From August 26 to September 30, 2013, it held its first Basic Mountaineering Course.

The National Institute of Mountaineering and Allied Sports (NIMAS) was metaphorically created. when the Indian government recognized the need for a comprehensive approach to adventure sports. The institute was designed to provide instruction on land, air, and water. Making it the first of its type to allow citizens to encounter challenges on a range of outdoor surfaces. while also pursuing a career in adventure sports.

Since its founding, NIMAS has aimed to inspire in persons a real spirit of adventure. Every training programmer at NIMAS is based on the concepts of self-exploration and individual evolution. which has been influenced by the wonderful inner and outward adventures of people connected to the institute. Top 6th Indian Institute of Skiing and Mountaineering is at Gulmarg, Jammu and Kashmir.


The IISM was established in 1969 with a focus on snow skiing. It does offer mountaineering courses. although they are not as good as those offered by other institutes. Water skiing, parasailing, paragliding, adventure courses, and other activities are also available.

The Ministry of Tourism founded the Institute of Skiing and Mountaineering (IISM). Government of India, in Gulmarg in 1968 as a temporary initiative dubbed the Gulmarg Winter Sports Project (GWSP). The original plan was for the development of Gulmarg as an international ski resort with the necessary infrastructure. as well as the training of ski guides to suit the needs of tourists. The ski rental shop, as well as a chairlift and a ski lift, were built to promote skiing and adventure tourism among local and foreign tourists in the early 1970s. Top 7th Indian Himalayan Center for Adventure & Eco Tourism (IHCAE)  Chemchey, South Sikkim


The Indian Himalayan Centre for Adventure & Ecotourism has its headquarters in Chemchey (IHCAE).. This is nestled in the pristine highlands of the Central Himalaya. under the shadow of the spectacular Mt. Khangchendzonga, The world's third highest peak. Top 8th Sonam Gyatso Mountaineering Institute is at Gangtok, Sikkim

Top 9th High Altitude Warfare School is at Gulmarg, Jammu and Kashmir


It is an Indian Army training and research facility that was established in 1948. The courses at this institute are only open to members of the armed forces.

The High Altitude Warfare School of the Indian Army. (HAWS) is a defense service training and research institution. The Indian Army built a ski school in Gulmarg in 1948. This later became the High Altitude Warfare School of the Indian Army. which specializes in winter warfare and snow–craft. It is situated in an area prone to avalanches. Top 10th Pandit Nain Singh Surveyor Mountaineering Training Institute is at  Munsiyari, Uttarakhand.


It is a newly established mountaineering institute located at an altitude of 2,200 meters in Munsiyari. Uttarakhand's Pithoragarh district. After the Nehru Institute of Mountaineering (NIM) in Uttarkashi. PNSMTI is Uttarakhand's second most prestigious mountaineering institute. The institute is named after the famous surveyor Pandit Nain Singh Rawat. who was influential in the mid-nineteenth-century Great Trigonometrical Survey (GTS).
